Kilmarnock won by 3 Wickets
Strathclyde 8 pts, Kilmarnock 25 pts

After last weeks close win, Strathclyde were again involved in a tense and tight battle against Kilmarnock at a surprisingly sunning Old Anniesland. The outfield was damp but the wicket looked firm and Strathclyde decided to have a bat. Sats and Mobeen made a solid start before Mobeen chased a wide one. Adil came to the wicket at three and was immediately positive – too positive in fact as he took on a risky two and came up short as Azeem’s direct hit bought down the timbers. Tariq entered the scene and took up where he left off last week, immediately putting the opposition fielders on the back foot. He and Sats put on 50 for the third wicket, with Sats in restrained mood until a wide tempter from Hill was edged, and snaffled by Pasha at first slip. Goof and Azzy provide some support and the occasional fireworks, but it was down to Tariq to get the runs today, and he played a more restrained innings – picking his shots and going past 50 for the second week running. Support from the tail however, was limited and wickets continued to fall, including two more run outs. Tariq was eventually last man out, bowled by Hamilton for 74 in a team total of 157.

Kilmarnock’s reply got off to the worst possible start as Saeed drove Simon’s first ball straight to Tariq at mid-on. When the attack minded Javaid also perished to Simon in the 7th over and Ijaz bowled Baig with a rip-snorted that removed the off bail an over later, Killie were in all sorts of trouble at 17 for 3. Weir, who had done the damage in the corresponding fixture back in May, came out at five and was immediately aggressive – however Ijaz had his number and bowled him too. Laidlaw and the opener, Johnstone – who escaped a sharp caught and bowled chance off Simon’s bowling – started to dig in and set the tone for the remainder of the Kilmarnock innings. The chase seemed stagnated until Laidlaw lost patience and had a dart to debutant Naveen, driving straight to the snoozing Tariq, who woke up just in time to pouch his second catch of the day. Adil then produced a great delivery to remove the opposition skipper Jim Hill, but brother Alan came to the crease and proved a good foil for Johnstone as they steered the chase over the 100-mark. Simon bowled the older Hill with still 40 to knock off, but batsman number 9, Pasha, was a man with luck on his side. He set about the target with gusto and a swinging blade – mostly playing and missing as the ball regularly whizzed millimetres past his stumps, but also connecting on occasion with impact to boost the score ever closer to the target. He hit an unbeaten 37, surpassing Johnstone’s 34 as the match approached the 94th over. With the scores level, Ijaz finally bowled Pasha, unfortunately off a no-ball that end the game with Kilmarnock winning by 3 wickets.
